150 years Rigi Railways.
Anniversary celebrations.

Europe’s oldest mountain railway will turn 150 in 2021. This important moment in the history of Swiss railways and tourism will be celebrated with an appropriate program throughout the year. For example, how about a steam ride up to Rigi Kulm on the legendary “Loco No 7”?

New in 2021.

From 2021, the Bernina Express will offer a new afternoon connection Chur–Tirano as well as a morning connection Tirano–Chur, whereas the connection Landquart–Davos–Tirano will be discontinued. There is a brand new photo point on Alp Grüm – for an all-around unforgettable journey.

Groundbreaking projects.
Winter news 2020/21.
The public transport winter is fast approaching – and with it various novelties! In December, both the Ceneri Base Tunnel in Ticino and the V-Cableway in Grindelwald will go into operation. The latter will take guests to the Jungfraujoch a full 47 minutes faster than was possible before.

Treno Gottardo – the new north-south connection.


Equipped with bistro zone and family compartment, the Treno Gottardo runs hourly from Zurich, Basel and Lucerne to Locarno. In the highest comfort, guests travel on the historic Gotthard route along lakes and across mountains right to the sun-kissed corner of Switzerland. The Treno Gottardo starts operating as of the timetable change on 13 December 2020.

Coronavirus measures.
NEW: compulsory masks also on train station premises.
Since 19 October 2020, mandatory mask-wearing has been extended to all publicly accessible indoor areas throughout Switzerland. These include train stations, station halls, underpasses, platforms, waiting areas and ticket counters.
